MillionPlus comment on Results Day 2025
MillionPlus, the Association for Modern Universities, has commented on Results Day 2025.
Rachel Hewitt, Chief Executive of MillionPlus, said:
“We offer our warmest congratulations to all those receiving their A level, BTEC and T Level grades today. It is important that anyone who perhaps has not achieved the grades they hoped for should take a breath and remember that plenty of options remain open, with hundreds of courses at excellent universities around the country available through clearing.
“That demand for higher education remains strong is to be welcomed, as is the increase in acceptances for students from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. It is concerning, however, to see the record low for mature students (21 and over). We have seen a steady decline over the last decade or so and more needs to be done to incentivise routes into higher education to enable reskilling and upskilling. Only then will the government achieve their ambitions for economic and skills growth across all regions of the UK.
“We look forward to engaging with the government on the post-16 education and skills white paper to tackle these concerns.”

- What are modern universities? Modern universities are long established centres of higher education in their communities with roots that stretch back decades, if not centuries. Many gained university title following legislation agreed by parliament in 1992. They make up almost half of the UK university sector with over a million students studying at modern universities every year.
