University of Cumbria — Himalayan Disaster Resilience
Researchers from the University of Cumbria are working with international partners in the Indian Himalayas to strengthen disaster resilience among vulnerable mountain communities.
The project focuses on climate risk, landslides, flooding and infrastructure vulnerability in remote high-altitude regions.
Through fieldwork, community engagement and environmental monitoring, the research supports locally led disaster preparedness strategies. It combines geospatial analysis, climate science and community knowledge to develop sustainable resilience planning.
The initiative demonstrates how universities contribute globally to humanitarian and environmental challenges while building cross-cultural research partnerships.
