Universities and guidance under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act

The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a duty on universities to “have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.” This puts the Prevent programme, part of the Government’s CONTEST counter-terrorism strategy, on a statutory basis for the first time. On 12 March the Government published the Prevent Duty Guidance that universities will be subject to should it be approved by Parliament.
