MillionPlus, the Association for Modern Universities, has today (15 December) commented on the UCAS End of Cycle Report 2016.
Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of MillionPlus, said:
“We welcome the news from UCAS that more young people were accepted onto university courses this year. It remains the case that studying for a degree is one of the best decisions someone can make to be successful in the workforce.
“The new equality monitoring measures implemented by UCAS have proven useful in demonstrating a potential slowdown in participation by people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds and this is of huge concern. Inequality is linked with lower educational attainment, so it is vital that the government and the sector continue to work together to drive forward policies that enhance social mobility, including enabling people of all backgrounds and ages to enter university. This is why the independence of the Director for Fair Access must be maintained in the new Office for Students.”
