University of Staffordshire – Microplastics Research

The University of Staffordshire is tackling environmental pollution through research focused on microplastics — microscopic plastic particles now found across ecosystems, food chains and human bodies.

The project combines laboratory analysis with citizen science, enabling members of the public to participate in sample collection and environmental monitoring.

By engaging communities directly, the research raises public awareness while expanding the evidence base around microplastic distribution and ecological impact. Findings contribute to environmental policy discussions and support mitigation strategies aimed at reducing plastic contamination.

The initiative also provides hands-on research experience for students, linking environmental science education with real-world sustainability challenges.
