The annual update of MillionPlus’s facts and stats documemt on modern universities in Scotland sets out the scale and impact of the sector across access, public services, economic growth and research.
It highlights that modern universities educate almost 94,000 students—more than one in three of those studying in Scotland—and play a particularly strong role in widening participation, with high proportions of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, mature learners and those progressing from college pathways.
The sector remains of vital importance to public services and the economy, educating large shares of Scotland’s health and education workforce, supporting graduate entrepreneurship and contributing over £1.2bn annually to regional economies.
