MillionPlus and NUS urge students to vote remain in open letter
In an open letter published today (26 April), MillionPlus, the Association for Modern Universities, calls on higher education students and staff to register to vote in the EU referendum and to vote for Britain to remain in the Union. The letter is signed by the Chair of MillionPlus, and Vice-Chancellor of London South Bank University, Professor Dave Phoenix and President of the National Union of Students Megan Dunn.
The letter calls the UK’s university sector “one of our major success stories”, with major economic, cultural and global contributions being made by students and academics “in every city, region and country of the UK”.
It goes on to praise the “incredibly beneficial collaboration” between UK and European partners, creating opportunities and benefits that “cannot be valued only in pounds and euros” as well as the boost membership has given to the UK’s “world-leading research”.
The letter concludes: “If our universities are to go from strength to strength, and if the students of today are to become the global leaders of tomorrow, we urge everyone associated with higher education to register now to vote in the referendum and to vote to remain in the EU on 23 June.”
