million+ responds to HEFCE’s £1.7m award to develop engineering and computer science conversion courses

The university think-tank million+ has today (11 March) responded to the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s (HEFCE) announcement that it has awarded £1.7 million for 28 projects to develop engineering and computer science courses. Demand for graduates in engineering, data science, cybersecurity, and software engineering is growing in the economy and providing graduates in other subjects with the opportunity to study and work in these areas will allow them to develop their careers, and increase the supply of skilled practitioners.

Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of the university think-tank million+ said:

“As British Science Week begins, it seems clear that Modern universities are leading the way in terms of addressing the engineering challenge. Twenty of the 28 universities allocated funds by HEFCE are Moderns doing great work to address the skills gap identified by the government, making it easier for students to transition into careers in key areas.

“More than that, they continue to engage in teaching and research across numerous disciplines that makes a real impact to businesses and local economies across the UK.”
