Concerns about Student Opportunity funding

Amid growing concern that the Treasury and the Cabinet Office are targeting the Student Opportunity Allocation as an area of further ‘savings’, million+ issued a Parliamentary briefing to highlight the set-back this would represent for social mobility. It noted that this would mean that higher education opportunities were being promoted in aspiration by the removal of the student cap, at the same time as Treasury and BIS were abolishing the last remnant of direct HE funding from Government to support the success of students who enter education from more disadvantaged backgrounds.
