million+ welcomes Prime Minister’s commitment to fund additional university places
Pam Tatlow Chief Executive of the university think-tank million+ has today (Thursday) welcomed the Prime Minister’s commitment to provide additional student places for those wishing to go to university in September but has called for an early announcement to be made by the department of Business, Innovation and Skills. Mr Brown was being questioned at the Commons Liaison Committee and advised MPs that Lord Mandelson would be making an announcement “in a timely manner.”
Pam Tatlow said, “million+ welcomes the Prime Minister’s commitment that the Government will, after all, find additional funds for university places in 2009. This is the right thing to do in a recession. With only 5 weeks to clearing, Ministers are leaving it very late in the day and there will be widespread disappointment if only places for STEM subjects are provided when thousands of people of all ages want to go to university this year’.
