million+ comments on the release of the first cohort of diploma results
As the students who completed the first cohort of the new diploma in an accelerated one year (rather than a two year program which will be the norm from 2009/10) received their results today, the university think-tank million+ urged that the successes of these students should be appreciated and warned against concluding that this new qualification should be consigned to the rubbish bin.
Professor Les Ebdon CBE, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire and Chair of million+ said, “These results demonstrate the achievements of the first cohort of students undertaking the diploma on an accelerated one year programme. The first full cohort will start next year and will run for the full two years.
“Rather than concluding that the diploma should be consigned to the rubbish bin, perhaps we should celebrate the achievements of a pioneering group of students who have embarked on a radical and demanding new educational programme. It is far too early to come to conclusions about the diploma, these results show that the foundations have been built for the future success of this innovative qualification.”
