Widening participation indicators for UK higher education: The excellent continue to excel
Pam Tatlow, the Chief Executive of the university think-tank Million+ said “Universities with strong traditions of promoting opportunities and aspirations continue to excel. Without their positive policies to encourage access regardless of age, race and background, the figures on widening participation would look an awful lot worse. The UK needs admissions and student and institutional funding systems that are less complex and which properly support mature and part-time students. Government needs to look to those universities that really do create opportunities and improve attainment if we are to reach OECD levels of access to higher education.”
