Vice-Chancellor welcomes emphasis on FE progression but calls for simpler, 'just in time' admissions procedure

Professor Les Ebdon etc said “We very much welcome John Denham’s recognition that there is much more to do in terms of widening participation and in particular improving progression from FE to HE. 48% of HE students already come from FE colleges which teach the majority of 16-19 year olds and many older learners. 100,000 students from FE colleges apply each year and are qualified to go to university but do not take up their places. This is why there is an urgent need for a simpler, more easily understood, ‘just in time’ admissions procedure.”
