million+ welcomes the findings of the report ‘Trends in young participation in higher education’ published by HEFCE
million+ today (24 October) welcomed the findings of the report ‘Trends in young participation in higher education’ which shows that young people from disadvantaged backgrounds entering higher education has increased year-on-year.
Professor Michael Gunn, Chair of the university think-tank million+ and Vice-Chancellor of Staffordshire University said:
“The increase in the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds entering higher education is one of the great British success stories of the last 15 years.”
“This is the result of governments being willing to fund an expansion in university places and widening participation initiatives and modern universities rising to the challenge. Without this commitment and increased investment in schools it is unlikely that any of this would have happened.”
“Maintaining this momentum and also ensuring that part-time and mature students do not miss out is the challenge which Ministers, universities and employers now need to tackle.”
