New Director of Fair Access proposed by Ministers

Responding to the announcement by BIS Ministers, The Rt. Hon. Vince Cable MP and The Rt. Hon. David Willetts MP, that Professor Les Ebdon, Chair of the university think-tank million+ and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire is their preferred candidate for the new Director of the Office of Fair Access (OFFA), Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of million+, said: “Les Ebdon has been the Vice-Chancellor of the, now, University of Bedfordshire since 2003 and Chair of million+ since 2005 and is well-respected by students and all universities for his commitment to widening participation.

“The appointment of the OFFA Director is subject to the scrutiny and approval of MPs on the BIS Select Committee. The fact that Les Ebdon is being put forward as a candidate by Ministers puts widening access and social mobility centre stage in the new fees and funding regime.”
