On the beat - University of Cumbria

09 May 2016

Intended as a ‘pre-joining’ qualification for students aiming to join the police service it was initially designed in partnership with Cumbria Constabulary and subsequently developed following the introduction of the College of Policing.

This partnership between university, professional body and employer includes elements of co-teaching with a seconded police officer from Cumbria Constabulary, which maintains the commitment to recruit up to 25% of their annual intake from the programme.

Addressing local needs, while working with a national professional body, the partnership demonstrates the key role modern universities have in providing key workers to core public services.
