MillionPlus welcomes Jo Johnson’s announcement of fast-track degrees

24 Feb 2017

MillionPlus, the Association for Modern Universities, has today (24 February) welcomed the announcement by Universities and Science Minister Jo Johnson MP of an amendment to the Higher Education and Research Bill, introducing some flexibility to the fee regime as an incentive for universities to increase their provision of fast-track degrees.

Professor Dave Phoenix, Chair of MillionPlus and Vice-Chancellor of London South Bank University, said:

“Many students need to work to support themselves while they study or have caring responsibilities so two-year degrees are likely to have a limited market. However, we should be doing everything possible to offer students the opportunity to study in ways which fit in with their lives.

“MillionPlus has lobbied for a more flexible fees and funding regime as well as more public investment. We welcome the announcement that Ministers are tabling an amendment to the HE and Research Bill which will provide this.

“Modern universities have led the way in offering opportunities to those who have not had the chance to study for a degree and we look forward to continuing to work with Ministers to consider how these opportunities can be further improved.”
