Bath Spa graduate writes ‘inspirational modern classic’
Gill Lewis, who recently completed a Writing for Young People MA at Bath Spa University, has secured a publishing deal from Oxford University Press for her first novel, Sky Hawk. The novel, described as “an inspirational modern classic” is “a book which will touch the hearts of all who read it.” according to Liz Cross, children’s publisher at OUP.
Gill won the award for the most promising writer on her MA course, and developed her manuscript during her time at Bath Spa.
Gill commented: “I am thrilled to have secured this publishing deal. The support and encouragement I received during my time at Bath Spa University was fantastic, and has really launched my writing career.”
Sky Hawk is a story of friendship and hope, influenced by her passion for wildlife. Gill – a former vet – drew inspiration for her writing from the people she knew during her work and travels. The novel will be published in May 2011 and has already received considerable attention abroad as well as in the UK. It will be published in the US and nine foreign languages so far.
Bath Spa’s Writing for Young People MA is a rich source of talented writers, with award-winning authors Sally Nicholls and Marie-Louise Jensen also alumni of the course.
