Annual Celebration of Justice to be held in City
Senior University of Wolverhampton staff will join judges, magistrates and police officials at an annual celebration of justice taking place this weekend.
A Service to Celebrate the Administration of Justice in the Black Country will be held at the Collegiate Church of St Peters in the city centre this Sunday (MAR7) at 3pm.
The event is attended by Judges and Black Country Magistrates, Barristers, Solicitors, Court Staff, Police, Prison and Probation Officers and staff from the School of Law, Communications and Social Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton.
The annual service has been organised by the University of Wolverhampton’s Senior Chaplain, The Reverend Prebendary Dr Geoffrey Wynne.
Among the attendees will be His Honour Judge Jonathan Gosling, who graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 1978 and was among one of the first intakes of law students.
He said the University had provided an excellent grounding for his careers and that he maintained links with former students and staff. He began his career as a magistrates’ clerk in Wolverhampton, later becoming a barrister in Birmingham.
Judge Gosling now presides over courts in Wolverhampton and Derby.
“I was delighted to be invited to the service and am very much looking forward to attending,” he said.
Rev Preb Dr Wynne said the service was an important date in the civic life of the city and the University calendar.
The service is at the behest of the High Sheriff of the West Midlands Mr Paul Bassi, who is taking part in the service.
University Representatives will include Vice-Chancellor Professor Caroline Gipps, Dean of the School of Law, Communications and Social Sciences Dr Judith Burnett, and Dean of the School Art and Design Dr Bryony Conway.
Uniformed policing students from the University will also be attending to meet and greet guests.
