Pam Tatlow - Chief Executive

Pam TatlowPam Tatlow is the Chief Executive of million+, a university think-tank which aims to develop and shape public policy and funding regimes on a non-party basis so that individuals from every walk of life, business and the public sector benefit from the opportunity to access universities that excel in teaching, research and knowledge. A qualified teacher Pam Tatlow was head of department in comprehensive schools before lecturing in industrial relations at college, regional and national level and advising on equality structures.

She was a senior officer for the Society of Radiographers, developing the Society’s national education programme, parliamentary liaison activities and strategy during the establishment of the first NHS Trusts and was subsequently a senior official of the NASUWT with responsibility for the Home Counties and Greater London regions.

Awarded an MA in European management and employment law, she was appointed to and has been a member of the Employment Appeal Tribunal since 2002.

Pam took up post as Chief Executive of the former CMU (Campaigning for Mainstream Universities) in 2004. Under her leadership the Education Select Committee was persuaded to call an early Inquiry into the consequences for institutions and part-time students of the 2004 HE Act and CMU launched a research programme and submitted a wide range of evidence to Ministers and to the Select Committee.

Pam Tatlow became Chief Executive of the university think-tank million+ in November 2007. Since then million+ has published a number of reports – Reality check: student finance regimes, Creative Futures: building the creative economy through Universities, Universities and International Partnerships, Social mobility: Universities changing lives and Enrol for free – a proposal to support those on Job Seekers Allowance and short-time working to study at university for the first time.

Pam Tatlow has chaired a number of key local government committees, including employment and community development, has served as spokesperson for social services and health, as a Board member of a major regeneration project and has been on the management committee of a number of voluntary projects.
